The Lodge is situated on the edge of a dramatic valley, overhanging the Taaibos River and overlooks stunning, billion-year-old cliffs. Game drives and walks can be taken at prearranged times and can even include bush braai’s (African barbecue) and picnic lunches.
Welgevonden shares a boundary with SANP’s Marakele National Park and is home to most of Africa’s famous wildlife, with over 50 mammal species, including the big five, and over 250 birds species. The Reserve is well known for its rhinos and for plentiful sightings of cheetah.
The San are the oldest inhabitants of Southern Africa, where they have lived for at least 20 000 years. The term San is commonly used to refer to a diverse group of hunter-gatherers living in Southern Africa who share historical and linguistic connections. The San were also referred to as Bushmen, but this term has since fallen out of use, since it is considered pejorative. San paintings, within walking distance of Taaibos River Lodge, have been dated to more than 2,000 years old.
Taaibos River Lodge is located in the acclaimed Welgevonden Game Reserve which is situated in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
